Nikki Tutorials video made me cry

The news is out.

Nikki Tutorials came out in a 13 minute video on her Beauty Youtube channel as a transgender women, and we are all shocked. She started Youtube at the age of 14, in 2008, and throughout that time she has been respected and looked up to by younger beauty gurus to follow. Tutorials was always seen as special, but the community will now cherish her talent even more as she is welcomed into the LGBTQ+ community.

Posted Monday morning January 13th, with already over 12 million views,

It now has over 31 million views, and is still in the news.

We have been looking up to her for years, and she’s “Still the same Nikki”, but now she’s even cooler. Her coming out was a sudden surprise, and although the community is eating it up, it came on bad terms.

In her video, Nikki said how she was blackmailed of being outed and so she decided to come out on her own terms. The real question is, who was blackmailing Tutorials. Who wanted to out her, and why is this still going on in 2020?

In her video, “I’m Coming Out”, Tutorials stated “I have been blackmailed by people that wanted to leak my story to the press,” she said in the video. “At first it was frightening. It was frightening to know that there are people out there that are so evil that they can’t respect someone’s true identity. It is vile and it is gross. And I know that you are watching this.”

On twitter, avid Tutorials followers are raging at the fact that she was blackmailed, and they threaten to kill the people who would dare to out such a respected member of their community.

In an article by Buzzfeed News titled “Outing Is A Serious Threat To Trans People, And NikkieTutorials Isn’t The First To Experience It”, Lauren Strapagiel quotes “Nick Adams, a trans man and GLAAD’s director of transgender media and representation, told BuzzFeed News. “Historically, we know that when our gender history is revealed to others, it can result in loss of job, loss of friends, and often loss of life.”

Strapagiel quotes Adams again saying “Transgender people are absolutely entitled to keep their gender history private,” he said. “People who have transitioned are living as their authentic self. They are showing you their authentic self every minute of every day.”

Being transgender doesn’t mean everyone has the right to know about your past, they are who they are now, and should be treated like everybody else without the judgment.

There are always people who try and put others down for their own personal gain, but Tutorials was able to make lemonade out of lemons, it just shows how honorable she is, and how much light she brings to the beauty community and to the world.
