“I like death. I’m a big fan of it” – Guy Ritchie

For a man who is a big fan of death he sure knows how to live up to his title of British gangster films and Sherlock Holmes franchise films.
Ritchie recently directed the American musical fantasy film Aladdin. It is a different style and taste from his other films he has directed. On Sunday, January 26th, I was able to go watch his recent film, The Gentleman. This crime action, twisty, violent and aggressive film lead up to my expectations.
Before you continue to read my movie review, there are a few things you should know. This isn’t going to be a spoiler, this movie review is giving you the updates on characters in the film. Also, The Gentleman, consists of shooting guns and British men cursing left and right. If that doesn’t seem like your forte than this film isn’t for you. But you will be missing out if you don’t catch this film in theaters, it is definitely worth it.
If you’re one of those people who talk during the movie or get side tracked, you’ll miss the whole beginning which is very important towards the end of the film.
This film features Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Henry Golding, Jeremy Strong and Colin Farrell. All great actors and different personalities that made the film unique. The actors were dressed up with flash outfits, statement eyewear, and tremendously nice looking hair.
Hugh Grant, Charlie Hunnam, and Jeremy Strong suit up with glasses and a goatee for their character’s look.
Matthew McConaughey is Mickey Pearson, kingpin who’s built an illegal pot empire and wants to hang it all up. He has trouble hanging up the towel as he goes through complications when people want to take over his business and will do anything to get their way. Pay close attention to Pearson, you’ll fall in love with his bad boy act or want to kill him like the others. Let’s not forget about his wife who is played by Michelle Dockery, doing a phenomenal job in her role. Their relationship in the film is to die for, such a brilliant and inferior couple.
Grant plays Fletcher, a sneaky scum snoop underneath a photo lens. His character is a snoop and wants to give information to those who need it if they pay up for money. So while watching this film, pay attention to Fletcher. He is someone you can’t forget during the movie since he is retelling the story.
Hunnam plays Ray, a right hand man to Mickey Pearson where he does handle the complications that come in Pearson’s way. Ray is also a key character in the film since he is the one that Fletcher is trying to swindle money out of him.
You may have remembered the charming and handsome Henry Golding in Crazy Rich Asians. Well he roughs up his persona in The Gentleman, and does a great job trying to be a bad boy. His slick look may or may not distract you from wanting to not like him at all.
Farrell plays Coach, walking around wearing a tracksuit and using a soft and tough persona for his character. I see him as a guardian, caretaker since he has a crew of gym rats that he looks over. These gym rats will be in many scenes during the movie so don’t you forget about them. They also spit out a fire track during the movie, making you want to sing it over and over again.
Now I have given you details about the characters/actors without ruining or spoiling the movie. These details are crucial to the movie and after watching it, I have loved these actors way more than I did before. You should 100% go check out this movie before it isn’t in theaters anymore. After watching it, I realized that I wish I could hangout with these guys. Their days just seem so interesting and adventurous, no matter what they are doing it is always a good time minus the guns.
