Gaming is something we all enjoy, well, some of us hate it but this article isn’t for them. If you were to ask any gamer what one of their favorite video game moments was, there’s a good chance they might say playing video games till the sun comes up with some of their closest friends.
Pulling all-nighters to play a new game or just have fun is one of the best feelings in the world. However, they don’t produce lovely side effects. The day following an all-night gaming session can be brutal and put a huge damper on your day.
From one gamer to another, here are a couple of tips to make your next all-nighter a little easier to deal with.
1. Clear Your Schedule

If you want to have a nice rest day after an all-nighter, make sure the following day is filled with little to no responsibility. If you need to pick up your niece, have class, have homework, a doctor’s appointment or any other event, you may want to reschedule your gaming session.
I use these specific examples because these are all things or events I have forgotten to do or go to because the previous night, I was playing Minecraft or Halo. My brother was not extremely thrilled that I forgot to pick up his daughter from school. It can really suck to miss a significantly important event because you decided to be irresponsible and play Pokemon all night and slept through your alarm. Again, I’m @ing myself just as much as I am @ing you.
2. Make Sure You Have Some Food available

Let me tell you a funny story. One night, my roommates talked me into getting GTA 5 one Friday evening. We started playing at 3 pm and didn’t stop till 3 in the morning! Half my day, gone (but I’d do it again)! However, during this 12 hour period, I hadn’t eaten anything and when we stopped playing it was when I realized how hungry I was. The hunger was real y’all, so real that I couldn’t sleep. I ended up staying up till 6 am so I could walk to the McDonald’s across the street, buy and eat enough food to feed a small family and sleep for the remainder of the day.
So do yourself a favor and have food nearby. And no, I don’t mean a big bag of Doritos and a two-liter bottle of Mountain Dew, have some real food, like some chicken.
3. Make Sure You do NOT Disturb The Peace of Your Household

I live in a big household, 12 to be exact, and as fun as it sounds, some all-nighters have caused some issues. It turns out, screaming at the top of your lungs when everyone is trying to sleep at three am isn’t a good thing, who would have thunk. If you have roommates or more annoyingly, family members, first-person shooters probably aren’t the best game to go with.
Role-playing and Sandbox games would probably be the best fit. You get a nice relaxing gaming session and your housemates get to sleep, how nice.
4. Get Comfortable, Your Gonna be Here for a While

All night gaming sessions can last anywhere between 8 to sixteen hours, just speaking from personal experience. You need to be comfortable during this time or else your experience is going to be ruined.
Here are a couple of tips to experience the maximum level of comfiness:
- Get a good, steady temperature in your room.
- Have a nice cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate nearby, at all times.
- Find a big, fluffy and cozy blanket.
- Add 5 more pillows to your set up.
- Get some nice color changing lights, they’re pretty cool.
- Wear your best pair of sweat pants or pajama bottoms.
- Light a candle (very cozy).
- Essential oils (even cozier).
- Wear some fluffy socks.
It is nice to dedicate some time to your hobbies and staying up all night playing video games with some of my closest friends are some of my best memories. However, too much of anything can turn bad. Take some time to go outside or go to the gym, you do need some physical exercise. Also, remember to prioritize, your homework needs to get done, you need to go to your doctor’s appointment and you need to pick up your kids/niece from school.
