Onward takes you on an adventure in a human-like fantasy world. In this fantasy world there are dragons, mythical creatures, and of course magic.
With these magical creatures they have lost their way with magic and forgot how to cast spells. Now these creatures live like us humans and are sure they have invented light bulbs, smartphones and other technology. These creatures have feelings, get anxious and unicorns fight over trash instead of galloping into rainbows.
Where two teenage elf brothers (Ian and Barley Lightfoot) go on a quest to discover if magic is still left in their world.
The Lightfoot brothers have lost a parent and have come across a way to see them again. It brings more of a personal place in our hearts with the possibility of having one more day with a parent who has passed away.
It brings my heart at ease to see what stakes they take to make this magical day happen. Things obviously don’t go their way right away and the day continues to get setback with complications. On their adventure they are able to reflect on their relationship as brothers and what family means.
They go through arguments, disagreements, and fights but that’s what brothers do.
Even though they go through these arguments and fights they realize that their relationship can be complicated but there is a lot of love for each other.
It seems relatable to how my siblings’ reactions are towards one another. Having six siblings can be difficult, there is always something going on but we’re family and love each other. Onward is relatable to my family and our lives, we have our grandparents and their memories are surrounded with us everyday. It could be our grandma’s banana bread recipe, own paintings and letters that have reminded us of them.
Onward creates a personal story for us to identify and relate with. It is an exciting story line because it shows the magic of Disney and gives the quality of a classic Disney story.
The personal story is losing someone you love and would go through any stakes to see them again. If you were handed magic to see that loved one again would you go through the complications to get there? I would.
Everyone has lost someone in their life and those memories are guaranteed to stick with you your whole life. Onward gives a special meaning for those who have lost someone. After you are done watching the film you’ll leave with tears and a big smile.
Be advised that the quests that they go on continually jump from one to the other. Some could say that they are not really fond of how movies jump from one scene to the other so quickly. But Onward does a good job of letting quests jump from one to the other as it is seemingly pleasing in the viewer’s eyes.
Disney and Pixar have done an excellent job with this new movie. From character building, storyline, soundtrack and to the trailer it was well put together.
If you didn’t click above on the link to the trailer, I suggest going back up and clicking on it, you’ll understand why Onward is magical and heartwarming.
