Candy’s Review on Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Grabbed from Nintendo’s website.

Did you know it was possible for a package to get lost in the mail? I found that out the hard way when my postal service worker told me she didn’t have my package. She said that again the next day and the day after that. We had come to the conclusion that the package was lost. The content of that package was the new Animal Crossing game (New Horizons).

After being derived from the game for two weeks, I was finally given the opportunity to play the game and here are my thoughts on the game.

Also, I think this goes without saying but there will be some spoilers ahead so if you wish to avoid them, click out while you still have the chance.

First things first, the villagers. I love these villagers. When you open the game for the first time, you’ll meet Timmy and Tommy, raccoons who are twins. From that moment on, they became my favorite. Other than the twins, there are about 391 plus characters. Playing the game for about a week straight, I have only encountered about twelve different characters.  These characters also have hilarious reactions. Your character can sneeze and the character(s) around you will react with the funniest stare.

Speaking of characters, this game offers so many different clothes and custom designs to decorate. Certain characters will sell you different clothes, furniture, floor designs and wall designs every day. One thing I personally love is that every player will encounter different furniture or clothes every day. This also works with crafting. You discover different crafting recipes as you progress through the game. While my first crafting recipe might be a chair, someone else’s first crafting recipe might be a television.

Next, the game has some objectives but not many, meaning that you can do whatever you want. There’s so many different things you can do. You can build up and decorate your house, customize different clothing items, go fishing for different fish, create a collection of bugs, dig up fossils, fill a museum with your findings, go to different islands and many others. Given the number of different things to do, this game can keep you busy.

Next, let’s talk about things I find mildly annoying.

Tom Nook…

Nook is a main character in Animal Crossing, he is basically the man you go to every day for tasks. He may ask you to do something, something like build three houses by the next day and when you finish, he rewards you with a piece of junk. He is also in charge of renovating your house. The first upgrade seemed okay to me but the second one is just extreme. I have to pay 198,000 Bells, bells are the in-game currency. It has been a couple of days and I am still working to pay off the loan. However, that just means I get to play more so, count your blessings.

Next, tool durability. Look, I get it, tools break but do they have to break every two minutes. Honestly, it doesn’t bug me too much but I swear, my tools always break at the most inconvenient times.

Now, something I love and hate is the time cycle in the game. The games day starts at five a.m. and ends at five a.m. the next day. So when Tom Nook says your house will be done tomorrow, he means tomorrow. To be honest, this stops me from playing the game until I finish it. Sometimes there are some chores I need to do that I can’t because I have to do them when the moon is out and it’s currently 11 a.m.

Besides that, I love this game so much. Other than the annoyance of the 24-hour game cycle, I love every aspect of this game. Though I have played it for countless hours, there is still more to do. I give this game a 10/10 and would recommend it to anyone.
