Thanks to COVID-19, we are all stuck inside, sad right? All of the athletes, gym-rats, students in college and fast food/retail workers are having a hard time adjusting to our new lifestyle. However the gamers are doing just fine, perhaps maybe too fine (complement intended).
Gamers, such as myself and others, are having a good time sitting around all day and devoting extra hours to our favorite games but a limit needs to be created. Though I really wish we could, and I really wish we could, we can not sit around all day just to play video games, sad right.
Here are some tips to beat binge-gaming without taking too much of it away.
- Don’t immediately run to the games.

You might be saying, BUT I NEED IT! Let me be the first or the hundredth person to tell you that you don’t need to make video games a constant variable in your life. Now the 75 hours I have logged into Animal Crossing: New Horizons may say different but let me explain. My youngest brother, Zeke (not his real name), will wake up and walk straight to the Xbox … don’t do that. Though you may have no where to go, that is no excuse for not taking the time to take a shower, brushing your teeth or cleaning your face. Do the things you need to do before you run to your console.
2. Try some other things.

Not that gaming isn’t a wonderful thing, there are other things to do. Consider some of those other things. I’m saying this for your own good. With COVID keeping us all inside, venture out of your comfort zone. Most of us have so much more free time on our hands and we should take advantage of that. Maybe you’ve been wanting to learn how to play the guitar, or you might want to start learning how to work out or maybe you wanna learn how to make whipped coffee (it’s not that great by the way). Now is the time to start learning. Like Michelangelo said, “I’m still learning.” Never stop trying to learn something new.
3. Play your games in moderation.

Just like everything else in life, everything is done best with moderation. It’s like food, don’t eat too much but don’t eat too little. Find your balance. I know it is extremely tempting to play for 15 more minutes, more like an hour, but your games are not going anywhere. Some of us are still trying to balance many other aspects of life, such as school, family, a significant other and maybe sleeping. If one aspect of your life is bigger than the others, than all other aspects will fall. Set aside time to play games after you do some homework, workouts or spending time with the ones you love. There is such a thing as over playing your favorite game.
This article isn’t meant to shame anyone, I love video games, they have taught me so much and have gotten me through some tough times. However, in our current situation, it is important to realize that there are far more important things in life than the extra side-quest.
Go out and enjoy your video games along with the other beautiful aspects of your life.
