Online Magazines to check out when you want to be Inspired

We are all online right now, and it’s hard to create while being stuck at home and uninspired. Check out these magazines when you are in need for some creative inspiration to boost your motivation to do something other than watch Netflix.

Messy Magazines homepage and art prompt for April 20th

Messy Magazine has been putting out weekly prompts to keep you busy at home. This week they inspired their readers to create a ‘Sculpture’. To “Look around your home for objects to pile, warp, change, stack, balance, whatever”, and then create a work of art. They also provide daily prompts on their site for you to respond to, and reflect about your life and feelings. Definitely check them out if you are in need of writing and art inspiration while you’re quarantined.

Vogue has been putting out some inspirational articles that will get you wanting to dye your hair. Lauren Valenti wrote an article titled “Why Social Distancing is Inspiring Bold, Bright At Home Dye Jobs”, where she interviews some people who have decided to play with their hair while at home. She talks about how it’s a creative outlet for people, and gives them a way to express themselves. I would recommend reading this article if you have thought about dying your hair a fun color at home.

Sunstroke magazine has been putting out articles daily, as well as playlists for you to listen too while (hopefully) creating. One of the articles they put out “Isolating as a Creative” submitted by Naina Humayoon, gives some tips on how to start creating while at home. Humayoon advises that “Sharing work or projects you have been working on will not only help bridge the gap created by social distancing but will also give you a second perspective you may now be lacking since working at home”. You hear that creatives? Share your work, we would love to see it, and maybe it will inspire us to get out our old sketchbooks.

Her Campus is an online publication catered towards female college students, and they are putting out articles about what students are doing at home. Ruby McAuliffe wrote an article for displaying college women across the country, and what they have been wearing at home. She wrote this article because she was wondering if everyone was wearing pajamas all day, or actually getting dressed. This article will inspire you to not worry about what your wearing, and to shop online a little bit for that sweater you saw one of the women wearing.

While all of these magazines offer different forms of inspiration, hopefully you will do something meaningful with your time at home. When this is over, you will be able to look back at what you accomplished during quarantine; whether you write a reflective poem, or buy those shoes you always wanted, you can thank COVID for giving you the time to do something you might not have done otherwise.
