Cooking is both an important skill and a creative way to make art. It helps one be able to make food for one’s self and others while making fun art pieces that are edible. This is especially true for those who do baking. However, many do not know how to make such foods. YouTube has helped provide multiple different sources that help teach and show how to make both tasty and beautiful foods. One in particular is Rosanna Pansino.
Pansino is what one calls a food influencer. She is most well known for her series, “Nerdy Nummies” which show how to cook famous foods that are themed from pop culture and fictional works. Such examples include baking cupcakes that have symbols from the show My Little Pony, Candy Pops that are shaped as Minecraft blocks, and even a cake that looks like a chess board with all the pieces.
Her start would begin way back in her early childhood. She first began to cook by learning from her grandmother who taught her how to bake. It was here that Pansino found that she loved baking food. As she got older, her interests were more toward acting than cooking. In highschool, she took part in musicals and plays. While she aimed toward the spotlight, she also enjoyed pop culture like movies, social media, and video games.
As a young adult, she appeared in a bunch of tv shows which mainly were small roles or background characters. A few involved being on movies like “Amy Alyson Fans” and “Bloodsucka Jones” as Biographed stated. However, not long after she began to rise in her acting career, she started her YouTube Channel due to suggestions made by some of her friends who were also YouTubers.
Early in her start on YouTube, Pansino was told that she had to choose between acting and YouTube due to her acting career being affected by her not paying full attention to it. Torn between the two, she eventually decided to make the hard choice of being a full time YouTuber. In an interview by Cosmopolitan she stated, “That’s when I totally invested 100 percent of my time and my life savings into my channel. I worked on my channel full-time for a year before I started to make money. I just had to live off my savings. I lived in a really small apartment with, like, six people and three bedrooms.”
As time went on, Pansino’s cooking series “Nerdy Nummies” earned much praise by the YouTube community and it began her journey to become a famous YouTuber. Today, Pansino has appeared on multiple different magazines, was a guest star on Netflix’s original baking show “Nailed It!”, has released merchandise and cookbooks, and won several awards. Her channel now holds almost 13 million subscribers. Her most popular video was the one where she made two cakes that look like the two royal sisters from the movie “Frozen” which now has almost 217 million views.
She has also collaborated with other famous Celebrities like The Try Guys, Markiplier, even The Muppets, and Cookie Monster. Not only that, but she participated in several different charities. These helped toward St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Make-a-Wish Foundation.
While there are other cooking YouTubers, Pansino has risen above many due to her fun personality, cheerful nature, and overall friendly content. This hasn’t changed even with the pandemic. With her loyal fans and community still going strong, she continues to make cooking videos. Recently, Pansino is promoting a new show called “Baketopia”.
It will come out on HBO Max on Thursday, March 25th. The show is a cooking competition run by her that will cause the competitors to create unique and interesting products based on viral trends and special ingredients.
