Many YouTubers tend to swear a lot which can be a major turn off for those who do not enjoy those kinds of things. However, despite the cussing and loud mouths, some hold good personalities and character. This is especially true for gamer YouTubers. One of the biggest is Markiplier.
Markiplier or Mark Edward Fischbach is one of the most well known gamer YouTubers on the platform. His iconic profile which is a drawing of himself with a pink mustache is what many remember him by. His playthroughs of horror games along with his skits and characters have led to him earning almost 30 million subscribers.
What makes Markiplier stand out for many is his funny personality along with his screams of fear and swearing from rage. As MSN stated, “Markiplier’s funny commentary while playing video games is one of the driving factors behind his popularity. He became known for his playthroughs of horror games at the beginning of his career.” Many fans enjoy his gameplay through games that scare him along with games that make him rage. However, the short skits are what drive many laughs and views. The most viewed video on the channel is a short video of Markiplier saying meow but looks like it is coming from cats.
It has over 256 million views with another short video of him doing the same thing but with dogs at 112 million views.
While very impressive, many also hold great respect for Markiplier due to his humbleness when thanking his fan community. In a video back in 2015, he cried while watching a fan video showing many different fans from all over the country giving respect to him in celebration of him reaching 6 million subscribers. It happened again when he reached 8 million subscribers.
This is mainly due to his past. Back in 2013, Markiplier did a Draw My Life video where he told of his background and how he got to where he was at the time. In it, he told of his parents divorce, the loss of his father whom he loved, a break-up with his girlfriend, and ending up in the hospital due to health issues. That, along with not knowing what to do with his life, Markiplier decided to turn things around and began to pursue making videos on YouTube where he first started back in 2012. From there, his fame began to grow and to this day, he always showed gratitude to the fans that stuck by him.
In return, Markiplier also began to do many charities. By 2019 he raised over 3 million dollars for charity as The Avion wrote. He also did a couple of unique forms of charity. One of the most interesting ideas he did was called Kick Club. This event was where he live streamed himself jumping onto other live streams both on YouTube and Twitch and asked his fans to donate to those streamers. The people Markiplier joined onto were all doing charities which helped raised money for groups like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
With his community spread all over the world, he has continued to provide entertaining videos along with helping those in need. One recent venture he did was called “A Heist with Markiplier” where it was a choose your own adventure on YouTube Originals. While usually it would have been only available to those who paid for it, Markiplier made it completely free for all to participate in as a good will gesture.
Another intriguing experiment Markiplier did was the creation of a channel called Unnas Annus. For a whole year, he and another YouTuber named CrankGamesplays posted a video everyday of them doing random things but after a year passed, they would terminate the channel. It was a way to show that nothing lasts forever and to enjoy what is currently being given in life. From here on out, Markiplier will continue to be a YouTuber into the foreseeable future.
