YouTube has been around for quite some time. For the past 16 years, it has been the place where people can post videos online, connect with other people who enjoy the same kind of content, and all enjoy a list of many different genres of entertainment. Few have been able to say that they’ve been around since the early days of YouTube. Two can say they’ve been making content even before YouTube first started. These would be Rhett and Link, the makers of Good Mythical Morning.

Rhett McLaughlin and Charles Lincoln Neal III, (which yes that is his actual full name), mainly go by their duo name and first channel Rhett and Link. They have some other channels on the platform like Mythical Kitchen, Ear Biscuits, and most famously Good Mythical Morning. The talk show has become an iconic channel where many have stated that it was their show that first led to them becoming more interested in becoming YouTubers. While the show has lasted for the past nine years, it has gained over 17 million subscribers and more than 6 billion total views on the channel with their most watched video holding 31 million views.

While not as trending and popular compared to other YouTubers like MrBeast and PewDiePie, they have helped start and kept with the trend of entertaining viewers far longer than most current channels.

The two friends have a very interesting relationship. Rhett and Link first met each other back in the first grade. Since then they have worked together on a bunch of different projects like interviews, short videos and comedy skits. Both soon became interested in entertainment, so in the mid 20s they started making videos both for comedic and personal purposes. One example was a documentary that the two created called “Looking For Ms. Locklear.”

As Promolta summarized, “In Looking For Ms. Locklear, Rhett and Link undertook the mission of finding the teacher who first introduced them to each other.” (Harris, 2019). This documentary that they created back in 2008 received a lot of praise both for it being created by a few people but also holding a lot of heart to it. It even won an award called the Southern Lens Award from South Carolina Public TV.

While they held great success, their real rise to fame was when they first started YouTube. While Rhett and Link originally started their first channel back in 2006, 2012 was when Good Mythical Morning was created. From there, the show brought them to fame and became a staple of creative entertainment on the platform. Some of the funniest episodes include of them trying some of the weirdest food combinations to doing challenges that are completely dumb like trying to destroy a barbie doll.

This popularity even brought to them being on a couple of YouTube Rewinds.

With all the fame and popularity, Rhett and Link also participated in doing charities. One recent example was of them helping with another channel called, The Game Theorists who were raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The two also have helped do charities for Inner-City Arts and Children International.

To this day, the duo have continued to provide hilarious and intriguing entertainment on YouTube. In 2019, they won the Streamy Award for best show of the year on YouTube. The relationship between Rhett and Link has still remained strong despite it being over 30 years since the two first met. As Link said on a podcast by CNET, “There are many times when we look at each other and we’re making each other laugh in the same way we did when we were recording ourselves onto cassette tapes, and doing mock interviews in grade school and middle school. We’re still doing that as guys in our 40s. It’s crazy, and I am so grateful that it resonates with people.” (Holland, 2020). And these two don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
