Here’s why Show Sushi is one of the best sushi restaurants in Southern California.
Every sushi lover knows they’re going to pay a hefty price for quality sushi. And you never just opt for one role. You spend your entire day fasting for the ultimate dinner, which in my case, usually consists of six roles between my boyfriend and me. Don’t forget the green tea ice cream for dessert.
It’s certainly a meal worth your time if you’re up for it.
Show Sushi is located in San Dimas, Calif., and is one of the more popular sushi restaurants in the area, according to multiple Yelp reviews. It’s crucial to remember you probably won’t be seated quickly without a reservation, as the place becomes busy most evenings.
Unfortunately, I didn’t realize this as I put my name in for two on a Saturday night. I waited about an hour to be seated. If I’m being completely honest, I was a bit hangry when I finally took my seat. But the menu called out to me, and it was showtime.
One unique aspect of Show Sushi is its sushi bar. It’s awesome to sit and watch the sushi chefs at work right in front of you. They are quick and delicate as they form the rolls and place them beautifully on the plate.
Ordering food at Show Sushi is interesting. You receive a piece of paper showing all the different kinds of sushi. Next to each option is a blank box. You get three rounds to choose however many rolls you’d like, on top of any other type of menu items. My boyfriend and I decided to order the all-you-can-eat special, costing roughly $30. But you must finish every last roll on your plate, or you’ll be required to pay an extra fee.
I especially liked choosing how many rolls I wanted each round. Some start small, but I decided I wanted to start strong—three rolls for the first round, two for the second, and one for the last. Keep in mind that I didn’t eat all of this on my own.
I ordered the golden tiger, tempura spicy tuna, and golden cali roll for the first round. I was impressed with the service. My food and drink came out quick, and my server was always at the ready. My favorite roll was the tempura spicy tuna. The flavor combination was perfect, and I loved the spicy sauce.
My second round consisted of the spicy shrimp and rainbow rolls. Both tasted amazing, although the rainbow roll felt a bit basic. Show Sushi is extremely authentic and by the end of this round, I knew I should have tried something a bit more exotic than the rainbow roll.
By the time I reached the third and final round, my stomach felt fuller than ever. But don’t worry, there’s no such thing as giving up at Show Sushi.
For the last round, I ate the red dragon roll. Me and my boyfriend split three each. The role was tasty and had a nice crunch to it. This roll was also on the spicier side, which I loved. I recommend the spicier rolls as the flavor combination is perfect.
At the end of our meal, me and my boyfriend decided to try Show Sushi’s green tea ice cream, which comes for free with the all-you-can-eat special. Though I was full, I couldn’t say no to free ice cream. It tasted sweet and delicious.
I recommend Show Sushi to any sushi lover. The staff is extremely friendly and hardworking, and constantly makes sure you are satisfied. The atmosphere is perfect for a night out with friends or even a fun location for a date. You can also order online and pick the food up at your convenience.
