Social Media Keeping us Social

While being forced to stay home has caused a lot of people to stop being able to see their friends and family, it hasn’t stopped us from interacting with them. With apps such as Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Whatsapp, etc. we are able to stay connected.

Whether you’re going on social media to be entertained, or to reach out to your loved ones, it is becoming a place people go to avoid boredom.

People who looked down upon TikTok before have since joined out of the need for something to do. Creators have been uploading a lot of content, keeping everyone entertained. Videos have been catered towards social distancing content, and we all appreciate the relatable humor.

On LinkedIn APU’s head of the PR department, Ismael Lopez, posted John Krasinski’s “Some Good News” youtube video to spread the “YouTube show we all needed at this time”.

Instagram has a “stay home” story feature, as well as a “thank you hour” story feature that you can put on your story posts. These are supposed to encourage people to stay home and to thank those who are still working at this time.

On Facebook people have been posting uplifting articles, and what has been keeping them busy while staying at home. Ingrid Hicks, a Licensed MFT therapist posted an article with the caption “Post Pandemic Growth: How is this quarantine actually good for us? I especially think we are appreciating and cherishing our loved ones so much more”. This article explains how to strive for Post-Pandemic Growth, and lays out ways to increase an appreciation of life.

Twitter has been uplifting those who are helping their neighbors. Here he is delivering 3 days worth of meals to an elderly woman in our community. @rshellzz on twitter posted a photo of her Uncle Pat delivering food to their neighbors. She captioned the post with, “He has no contact with them, other than a smile & wave through the window. Our family is so proud of him & grateful for the many lessons & laughs he shares with us in stressful times!” This shows how uplifting social media can be, and teaches us how to be a good neighbor.

All of the platforms have people doing their part, and trying to uplift others. Instead of social media being a competition it is now a place where everyone can commiserate together over the challenges we’re all facing.
